A new department has been created under the leadership of Dmitri Bondarenko, Ph.D., D.Sc. (General History and Anthropology), Corresponding Member (History) and Professor (Global Problems and International Relations) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Department of Anthropology of the East at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences!

We are confident that the Department's activities will make a significant contribution to the development of anthropological science and will help deepen knowledge about cultures of the East, their values and significance in the modern world.

The department's research priorities include a wide range of issues, among which are the study of cultures of the East in aspects that require reference to sources and methods specific to Cultural, Social and Political Anthropology, Archaeology, and other relevant disciplines and subdisciplines.

The Department's activities focus on the organization and conduct of field research, the development of a comprehensive historical and socio-cultural method based on understanding of anthropology as fundamentally a historical discipline, and effective approaches to studying societies and cultures of the peoples of the East of various eras.
